Dear Lynn - and Shay(who asked the original question)
You are wrong for assuming that Mary Skeels was John Stancer's bride. There
are six names to a page and as they are transcribed name by name there is no
way of knowing who belongs to who even by seeing all six names. There is a
chance that his wife was Mary, but there will be two other female names
appear for that page once they have all been transcibed.
The only way to find out is to see the relevant church records or send away
for a copy of John's marriage certificate. It is not necessary to provide
the bride's name as there is already a reference number to be used.
Be warned though, that although the volunteers doing all this transcribing
do their best, mistakes can happen either by human error or by having such
poor materials to read for transcription. I know - I am struggling with a
batch of 1864 deaths and they are extremely difficult to read.
The free BMD site now has a disclaimer at the head of the page warning
readers.
Best wishes
