Hi all
On Friday, December 07, 2001, Lynn Nutton wrote
> PS If a marriage is by Banns, what information would be on the banns certificate. My
reason for asking is that the marriage record of Jeremiah & Rebecca gives no information
about either person, and I wondered if the banns record may state if Jeremiah had been
previously married. I must add at this point that I don't know if the marriage was by
banns or licence.

There are several different registers that has marriages for Wisbech St. Peter, some of
which overlap in time periods. You have a marriage for Jeremiah Hamment / Hammond and
Rebecca Rycraft in 1793. This would appear on the following parish registers
# Marriage Register (LDS: 1040587, years 1746-1812, also contains bap & bur) which has the
following information for marriages:
Full Date, Groom's Name, Bride's Name, and the letter L or B (Licence or Banns)
# Marriage Register (LDS: 1040589, years 1769-1827) which has the following information
for marriages:
Full Date, & if married by Banns or Licence
Groom's Name, Parish of residence and if either Single or Widowed
Bride's Name, Parish of residence and if either Single or Widowed
Groom's and Bride's signature or mark, Witnesses signature or mark
on the same film but after the above marriages are the banns
# Marriage Banns (LDS: 1040589, years 1769-1813) which has the following
information for marriage banns:
Three dates of announcement of banns (over 3 Sundays)
Groom's Name, Parish of residence and if either Single or Widowed
Bride's Name, Parish of residence and if either Single or Widowed
Both these registers indicate if the marriage was by either by banns or licence. What is
the source of your record for John and Rebecca's marriage?
