Jo Welch Simpson, 84, of Louisa, Ky., went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 12.

Jo was born in Louisa, Sept. 6, 1922, the daughter of the late Clyde and Fannie Thornhill Welch.

She was a homemaker, a charter member of the Lighthouse Free Will Baptist Church, Rebekah Chapter 95, Eastern Star, and was very active volunteer at the Senior Center and J.J. Jordan Geriatric Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Simpson, who died in 2004 and a sister, Ernestine Jones.

She leaves three daughters and sons-in-law, Nellie and Leonard Wellman of Ashland, Ky., Mary Jo and Randy Simpkins of Louisa and Tammy and L.T. Adkins of Lavalette, W.Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, James A. and Shelley Simpson of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Sue Kelly of Blacklick, Ohio, and Betty Compton of Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Charles Welch of Cuyohaga Falls, Ohio, and Clyde Welch Jr. "Bear" of Louisa; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Sunday, April 15 at 3 p.m. at the Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa by Dr. James A. Hayes, the Rev. Ric Frazier and the Rev. Jason Cassell. Burial will follow in Vaughan Cemetery in Louisa.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
