My ancestors, Laurens Van Wyck and Catharina Fouser were married in the
Ouddorp, Netherlands Church on 17 January 1799. Marriage record is a two
page document with many signatures and with my very limited Dutch, it states
Laurens was born in Woerden and Catharina was born in Ouddorp. [Laurens was
baptized on 9 Sept 1770 in the Woerden Church and Catharina was baptized on 1
Oct 1775 in the Ouddorp Church.] Can someone tell me what the following
means. Looks like....Laurens van wijk,...Bombadier in De 2 Comp van 2
Battaillon Artilleri....thans is Gaindsoen alhier. I'm assuming he was a
soldier and he fired a cannon. How can I obtain his service record. I
need a history lesson. What was it like in the Netherlands in 1799.
