Hi, everyone...
(Following is a list of seafaring DUNDASes, but first...)
A few months ago I posted the following snippet regarding George Dundas and
the Winterton.
>George Dundas, 23rd of Dundas (son of James Dundas and Jean, daughter of
William, Lord Forbes): married 24 December, 1784, Christian, daughter of Sir
William Stirling and Mary Eskine (who was granddaughter of Sir James Dundas,
Lord Arniston). The laird was a Capt. in the H.E.I.C.S and commander of the
Winterlude(?) East Indiaman, was lost at the wreck of that ship off the
coast of Madagascar, 22 August, 1792. He was succeeded by his son, James
Dundas, 24th of Dundas Castle (which he sold in 1875).<
Didn't seem to generate interest at the time but was wondering if anyone
might have additional information about George's appointment to Captain of
the Winterton? If so, could you please contact Pauline McGregor Currien at
Although Pauline is not a DUNDAS descendent she has transcribed the
following DUNDAS names from Farrington's in an attempt to gain more
knowledge about her own ancestor -- Captain Raymond SNOW who preceded George
DUNDAS as Captain of the Winterton. Here is her post with the list of other
DUNDAS sailors:
