Hi Alison

The main medication used was Fresh Air and Rest!!
Drugs did not come into wide use until after WW2 and in the early 1950's a
rather radical form of surgery called a Thorocoplasty came into vogue for a
few years. The rib cage on the side of the diseased lung was "squashed" to
stop the lung functioning!
The disease was widespread at the time until Public Health measures, Drugs
and Mass Radiography helped to virtually wipe out the disease in the 1970's.
It now on the increase.
