In response to off-list request for more background here we go.

Niels Olsen was in fact Nils Olsson, born on 9 July 1840 in Reslöv, Sweden,
and baptised on 12 July 1840. He lived with his foster parents in Vinnö,
just south of Färlöv village, in Kristianstad län (county), Skåne landskap
(province).

Nils emigrated to Denmark sometime on or after 18 June 1855. This is the day
he obtained the certificate that would allow him to leave.

In Denmark he married Yensina Christiansen (the Aus/NZ spellings, so back
home she would be Jensina or Jensine).

They had a son Peter, born 11 Feb 1873. This was in Denmark, but we have no
idea of where. When he was 6 months old the family emigrated to Australia,
living in Bowen for 7 years. Yensina is reported to have died when Peter was
3. Nils and Peter emigrated to Auckland in 1880.

The above is why I'm interested in the Herschel sailing. I was hoping
someone had access to the Hamburg Passenger lists and could check the
passengers for me, or to some other transcribed list. The London FHC does
not have any of the films.

Kind regards
Kevin
