Greetings:

I can assure you all that there really are people named Jessen as I have
proudly carried the Jessen name for the past 78 years. My family surname
originated in Denmark,
near Felsted, in Sønderjylland. I assume it began as a patronymic name -
the son of Jes. However, for my family, it has been a surname/family name
continuously since 1700 until the present time in Denmark. Norman
Jessen

PS: When I opened up and saw the name JESSEN as the subject matter of 16
messages, what a relief to discover I wasn't in some kind of deep trouble ! :-)
Norman Jessen

Well yes -- Jessen is very much a sea and land hero name -- obviously in
the Jessen Danish blood.
----- funny thing really -- heroes seems to repeat generation after
generation -- !
The Jessen name seems to crop up, again and again - in aristocracy etc --
like Jessen Raben etc.

like the Danish Admiral Carl Wilhelm Jessen ---- 1764 - 1823 --

who on his old age became the Governor of the former Danish West Indies.

Here is his memorial on St Thomas --

Or the war of 1848 - 1850 war hero Colonel Tycho Jessen --- whom the Jessen
battery (artillery) was named.

painter Tycho Jessen)
