I suspect it was originally spelt Kjærgaard or Kiærgaard.
From Krabsen
Kjærgård, Agerskov Sogn, Nørre Rangstrup Herred, Haderslev Amt
Kjærgården, Gudum, Skodborg, Ringkøbing
Kjærgård, Hunderup, Gørding, Ribe
Kjærgård, Stenum, Børglum, Hjørring
Kjærgård, Tamdrup, Nim, Skanderborg
Kjærgård, Tilst, Hasle, Århus
These are the places called Kjærgaard. I can't find a place with any other
variant spelling of Kjærgaard and I can only find two of these places on the
map.
As the suffix gaard indicates a farm or an estate and last names with this
suffix were probably all taken from a place name I would expect to find a
place called
Kargaard if it was a correct spelling.
So if you are trying to find where in Danmark your ancestors originated from
I would try the places given above.
