Hi Janice

The basic unit of local government in Denmark is the Sogn (Parish). Until
1970 these were grouped into Herred (District) but are now grouped into
Kommune (Municipality). The Herred were (as are Kommune today) further
grouped into Amt (County). In 1970 some Amt were amalgamated. Some major
cities are not included in a County.

I use the old Sogn, Herred, Amt format for recording place names as that is
the way the LDS Family History Library catalogues their film archives.

I also use the Danish spelling in my records. If you don't use the special
Danish vowels æ, ø and å you will not find what you are looking for when
searching Danish databases.

Odense, Viborg, Denmark - These are two separate cities 130 km apart. Viborg
is on the mainland of Jutland (Jylland in Danish) Odense is on the island of
Fyn which is the large island between Jylland and the larger island of
Zeeland (Sjælland in Danish) where Copenhagen (København) is. Odense and
Viborg are also Counties. In 1970 Odense Amt was combined with Svendborg Amt
to form Fyn Amt.

I think that in your case the reallity is that Odense is actually Oddense
Sogn, Hindborg Herred, Viborg Amt.

Sanstrup, Odense, Viborge, Denmark - I think this is Saustrup a rural area
in Oddense Sogn, Hindborg Herred, Viborg Amt.

Ilberg, Rybjoerg, Viborg, Denmark - This is Ilbjerg, Rybjerg Sogn, Nørre
Salling Herred, Viborg Amt, Ilbjerg is a rural area within Rybjerg Sogn.

Little Ramsing, Odense, Viborg, Denmark - Lille Ramsing, Oddense Sogn,
Hindborg Herred, Viborg Amt. I can't find Lille Ramsing on my map but there
is a Ramsinggård (Ramsing Farm)

Rybjerg, Rybjerg, Viborg, Denmark - Rybjerg is a rural area within Rybjerg
Sogn. See above for Ilbjerg.

Alstrup, Aalborg, Denmark - I think this is probably Alstrup Sogn, Gislum
Herred, Ålborg Amt.

Beste, Hyllelyorg, Denmark - This is most likely in Hyllebjerg Sogn but I
can't find a place called Beste or anything resembling its name.

Stilebak, Fyen, Denmark - This would be Stillebæk, Veflinge Sogn, Skovby
Herred, Odense Amt.

Nyrup, Gislum Parish, Aalborg Co., Denmark - Nyrup is a rural area in Gislum
Sogn, Gislum Herred, Ålborg Amt.
