Hvejsel is actually a parish. It is situated in Nørlyng herred, Vejle County.
I also have ancestors there, but I can not see any connection at the
moment. It may also be a bit earlier. My great-2-grandparents Peder
Frederiksen Solberg and Karen Marie Mortensdatter left Hvejsel in 1845 and
moved to the neighbouring parish Øster Nykirke.
When you get a bit further back in time (before 1816), you should visit the
homepage of Erik Brejl at:
http://home0.inet.tele.dk/brejl
There you will find extracts of "Skifteprotokoller for Nørvang Herred".
That is official documents about the distribution of deceased persons
estate. They are one of the best sources for genealogy in the time before
1813, when some parish registers will not really work anymore, and it is
quiet the exception that they are available on the Internet.
You may also want to look at the census-records available at:
http://ddd.sa.dk
At the moment the site is down for maintenance, but up to now it is only
the census 1787 and 1801, which are available for Hvejsel parish.
Hope this helps.
