Thank you for your further message re the possiblities of being/not being illegitimate.

After your good works I found a marriage for a Jens Nicolaisen and Maren Neilsdatter (not Mikkelsdatter) at the same Church in 1843 which sounds possible - I am not sure what question I am asking you really. Perhaps my best bet is to get the Church Records that will cover these
years for marriages and christenings and see what happens. My GGrandfather told his grandchildren including my father the story that the family lived 6 doors down from Hans Christian Andersen was he not born at Odense??? perhaps it wasn't just a good tale after all.
