I am researching the family of James Porter and Nancy Dean and second
wife Rebecca Fearns. James was born about 1795 in MD and died Mar 1844
in Kent Co. His 1st wife died before 25 July 1835 when he married
Rebecca.

Children of James and Nancy
Joshua b. 1815-1817
Joseph b. 10 Aug 1818 (my ancestor)
Sarah
Martha
James Jr. b. 23 Feb 1834

James Jr. continued to live in the area and is bur in Hollywood
Cemetery.

Joseph moved to IN where he marr in Parke Co to Mary Ann Chesem. The
Chesem/Chezem family was also in the Kent Co. area.

Is there anyone on this mailing list who lives in Kent Co.

My ancestors were very near the border with Caroline Co, MD. "land
situated in Mispillion Hundred, adjoining lands of Thomas H. Baynard,
James Stafford, and others...beginning at a road leading from William F.
Chitton's saw mill to Milford and around the raod then to a post on the
State line in a line of James Stafford's land..." also bordered by road
leading to Burrsville.
Another neighbor and possible relation was Shadrack Raughley.

The above mentioned James Stafford became guardian to the minors Sarah,
Martha, and James Jr. at time of death of James Sr.

I have checked census, land records, looked at maps. I was out in the
area a few years ago and only had a few hours to drive around and just
get a feel for it. I have checked cemetery records.

What kind of newspapers might have been around then?
