Hello all -

I'm writing this note in response to a half-dozen e-mail messages that I
received over the past couple of days. And frankly, I'm a bit baffled as to
why I have received those notes. Let me explain why.

A few days ago, a new link was submitted to the list for a web site
regarding heraldry:
http://www.araldis.com/
Since that time, several people have written to me telling me that the web
site is entirely in Spanish, with no English translation available on the
site. I have written back to each person explaining that the Internet is
global, therefore many languages will appear on web sites around the world.
Each of these messages appeared to indicate surprise or dissatisfaction at
having found a site with no English text.

The part that baffles me most is why I would have to explain this. I would
hope that we (the online community) aren't so narrow in our views that we
believe Internet topics will only appear in the English language. I would
hope that we aren't so narrow in our views that we would believe that the
Internet exists only in English speaking countries/lands. I would hope that
we would all know that the Internet is International. It is global. And web
sites exist on the *World Wide Web.*

Therefore, please keep in mind that entries to Cyndi's List are also
global. I have links that point to web sites in English, Spanish, German,
Italian, French, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Icelandic, Afrikaans, Dutch,
Welsh, and many, many others.

When you find a site that appears in a foreign language, scan the web pages
on that site for a possible English translation (look for a link, or a
graphic depicting a US or UK flag). If unavailable, visit some online
translation services for further help. See the following category:

Successful surfing,
Cyndi
