Sorry, MAvis, should have sent to the List

Dear Mavis,
Thank you for your interesting response to my first post.
You suggested a "brief" outline of my tree......

Robert Cutt m. Elizabeth Swanny (Sanday, Orkney, Scotland)

James Cutt chr. 22 Nov 1779 Sanday m. Ann Keldy

John Cutt b. 1 May 1812 N. Ronaldshay m. Margaret Craigie 16Mar1838
died 24 July 1898 Kirkwall, Orkney
James b. 26 Mar 1840 (prob died childhood) Kirkwall
*John b. 16 Apr 1842 St Andrews Kirkwall m. Jane Findlater 6 Jun1868
died 7 Jan 1918 Portsmouth
Robert b. 12 Sep 1844 m. Margaret Foubister
William 10 Sep 1846
Ann 20 Mar 1848 m. Alexander Thomson
David 6 Jun 1850
Margaret Eunson 27 Jul 1855
Mary 31 Oct 1857 m. a Tulloch buried on SAnday
Hugh Craigie b. 29 Mar 1861 m. Elizabeth Robina Gaudie

Of the above, John, Robert, Ann and Hugh definitely had children.
They are seen at "West Waterhall", a little farm near Kirkwall on the Orkney
Mainland, up to the 1901 census.
I saw what remained last summer -- a pile of rubble. However, a wonderful
elderly gentleman who lived up the hill told me tales of the Cutts and what
became of them. He remembered Hugh, the youngest, and knew where they were
all buried.

From a great website : www.cursiter.com I obtained a text file listing all
the IGI birth & chr data for Cutts in Orkney, Caithness & Shetland.

From the 1881 census cds I have copied off all Cutt data, and I have also
attempted to get as much as I can from 1891 census material. (I have had in
my mind to do a one-name study "some day".......)

I think this is long enough for now! Will write again with the even longer
list of the next generation...
