Calendar of Sir William Johnson's Papers. William Corry, an Attorney to Sir
William Johnson, died April 1763. In a letter to the widow Mrs. Catherine
Corry, Sir William, speaks of him as "our old friend Mr. Corry of Albany".
The letter was written at Johnson Hall.
Note- Catherine must have been a second wife as Elizabeth was the mother of
the children bapt. Fort Hunter.

History of Montgomery Co. Page 72.
After the State Government was firmly established in place of the Colonial,
the lands remaining in it's possession as well as those derived from
forfeiture and other sources were usually sold in small parcels as portions
of some larger tract. Corry's Patent, granted 19th of Nov. 1737,has since
the establishment of the State Government been a matter of litigation and
dissention in regard to it continuing at the present time. The Grant was
obtained from the Crown and covered upwards of 25,000 acres, lying in the
towns of Root, Charlstown, and Glen. It was granted to William Corry and 12
others. George Clarke Lt.Gov. was secretly interested in the purchase, but
precluded from taking his share openly for the reason that an English Law
forbade a Col. Gov. being an interested party in grants of land made by the
Gov. Clarke was superseded in office 1743 and shortly after the lands were
laid out into lots and farms and divided between Corry and Clarke. The
latter died in 1763,and his possessions bequeathed to his two sons George
and Edward, then living in New York. Corry sold his share which was
confiscated by the State in consequence of the Toryism of its owner during
the War of the Revolution.

Williams Patent- granted to C. Williams and others Aug.29,1735, 14.00 acres
in Town of Florida-called Warrens Bush.

Town of Root- Currytown, one of the villages was named from the Patentee of
Corry's Patent, on which it stood, and is the oldest center of population
within the limits of Root.

Receipt- Lt. Gov. Clarke from William Corry for 150 Pounds toward the

Sander Lewis, son of David purchased from William Curry and Catherine his
wife, Dec.16,1754, 200 acres of land at So. East cor. of Lot 3,in said Curry
Patent. This land was in what is now Currytown, Town of Root in Montgomery
Co.
In the will of Peter Lewis dated Feb. 1800,proved 1811,he leaves to his son
David during his lifetime and no longer,102 acres of land he now has on
south side of the Mohawk at the place called Corriestown, part of Lot 2, a
portion of the 511 acres conveyed to Jacob C. Ten3yck of Albany by William
Corry.

Case of John Snyder, late of Albany Co. N.Y. Claimant says he was at
Mashishe in the fall of 1783. Went from there to St John's afterward went to
New Johnstown. Is a native of Amenia (Dutchess County N.Y.) Lived at
Saratoga. Joined Captain MacAlpine in 1777.
Enlisted with him-was afterward taken prisoner-got home in the winter. Left
his home and came to Canada in 1780.
He was promised a Lieutenancy by Capt. MacAlpine but could not get it. He
therefore went and staid at Mashishe. Had a lease from Genl. Skyler
(Schuyler) Produced Lease from Philip Skyler to Claimant of a farm - Part of
Lot 27, forever, paying 4 pounds York Currency per annum, Dated 1769.
Built Log house and barn, cleared about 25 acres. Had 112 acres in
Palmerston.
Produced Deed from Dirk Lefferts to Claimant in consideration of 44.16,
York, dated 1769.
He made no building, but had begun clearing, gave a horse in part payment
and the rest in hard money.
Had a Stock in No.1 Lot- 3 cows,4 other cattle, 4 horses, 8 sheep, 7 hogs,
furniture and cloathes.
These things were taken in the year 1777 by the Rebels.
When he returned from Imprisonment found his effects had been taken.

Dennis, Jesse,William,and Samuel Snyder, declared inveterate enemies of
their country, July 29,1776,by the Committee of that County.
William Snyder, probably the above, named at the peace, accompanied by his
family of 3 persons went from New York to Shelburne, Nova Scotia. His losses
in consequence of his loyalty were estimated at 600 Pounds.

Jan Jacob Van Noorstrant, had a farm on Cahoos Island in 1677, bought from
Annetie Lievens, wife of Gosen Gerritse Van Schaick, and sold to Roeloff
Gerritsen Van der Werken in 1680. In 1685 he was of Coxsackie and bought
land at Niskayuna. He married Agniette---- She departed for New York 1703.
Children- Margaret bp. Jan.11,1688. Jan Jr. who was killed by falling of a
tree.
