dear diane and curry list,
welcome to the confusion of the canadian curry branch. you
appear to have all the common rumors that the rest of us are trying to
search out and not having much luck at. the cooksbury address has never been
found although it is mentioned as you stated. the curry family living in
antrim is also not confirmed although most all scots settled in the northern
counties. the 3 sons you listed should have a fourth JOHN CURRY. he JAMES,
and EPHRAIM do have loyalist records fragmented about.it is believed that
EPHRAIM is the s/o JOHN. JAMES' family in lancaster is together and somewhat
correct the way you have it. you might have gotten some of your information
off his large new stone ( 20th century granite ) .the home at curry hill was
not built until about 1810 and JAMES never lived there.the EPHRAIM you have
married ALICE ( ALLIS/ALYCE ) BOLTON d/o GEORGE BOLTON. they lived in
edwardsburg . another EPHRAIM married ELEANOR. the port arlington story is
again undocumented and since EPHRAIM was born in ireland about 1762 and the
father was ? killed in 1750 doesn't work out. the CURRYs were active in the
saratoga / washington county area before the revolution. at that time it was
all albany county. JOHN CURRY was arrested in saratoga for loyalist support
while his sons EPHRAIM and JAMES and possibily others were in loyalists
units.JOHN CURRY is also listed on the 1779 census for ballstown new
york.it is believed by many of us canadian CURRY researchers that JOHN CURRY
of ballstown is the father to all the others but this is not fact yet. this
JOHN is also listed as setting up a tavern on concession #1 in lancaster
township when it first got started. supposedly he left the area that his son
JAMES lived in and moved down by EPHRAIM in edwardsburg. he is listed as
being buried in the north channel cemetery in grenville county but most of
the stones are gone so again this is hearsay.JAMES' wife MARGARET VAN
NOSTRAND married JAMES in ireland. irish records are scarce and no one has
really done any work in the london england public record office where some
of these facts could be found. so thats it , a lot of maybes and little
facts. good hunting with it and when one of us hits CURRY gold we will all
finally have our real answers.
