Thanks for the information, Rene. I already know that my paternal
grandmother was Cuban. The surname Acebal, however, is not of Cuban
origin, since her parents came to Cuba from Spain. In more recent research
I have done, it seems the name may actually have originated in Asturias,
rather than the Basque region, as I originally thought. Since the name is
so rare, and since you are from Cuba, I wonder if we may be distant relatives.
