Today's "Parade Magazine" (12-8-2003); has a story of the SS St. Louis, a
ship carrying 937 men, women, and children fleeing the Nazis, which the US
government turned away in 1939. The Survivors Registry at the U.S. Holocaust
Memorial Museum is seeking information on its passengers, and testimony on what
happened to them.

Among the passengers still not documented and accounted for are three young
Cuban girls traveling to Cuba from Lille, France, via New York. I thought that
it would be a nice project for the Cuba-L members...lets find them!

Mercedes (15 years old), Ramira (14 years old) and Zeza (13 years old)
MENENDEZ.

To be traveling (unaccompanied ?) at this early age they had to be from a
well established family. They would have been born c1923-1927, and would have
married late 1940s, if they survived and returned to Cuba.

Please contact Scott Miller; U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, 100 Raol

have any information.
