I assume that he was on the American side. If that was the case, US forces
which fought in the Spanish American War were organized as "State Volunteers
Units", ie. Maine Volunteers, New York, Indiana, etc. Find out from which State
and contact that State Historical Society or the local library. Many books
published about the various State units, also check the Library of Congress and
the National Archives.
