It has been a very long time since I have posted any messages at CUBA-L, but wanted to take a moment to say to old CUBA-L friends (and new) that I hope you and your loved ones were spared during the tragic events of the last few days.
I lived in New Jersey, but worked in New York City for two years and my love for that City and its people is deep and changeless. Though the suffering that has been visited on the City is inconceivable, the authors of the catastrophe underestimated the courage and resilience of its people, who, as a tribute to the fallen and as a challenge to themselves, will come together to build an even greater New York.
Having come from Cuba at the age of 13, and having grown up to the sounds of gunshots in the streets outside the apparent security of our home, I know the toll terrorism takes.
In the past few days, it has taken a great toll, not only in New York, but in other locations as well.
Wherever you are, I extend sincere wishes that God may keep you and your loved ones in safety and peace.

Best Regards, Vivian Narvaez
