Cancio,
Unfortunately, I am not well versed on the history of that time. You know
much more than I do and welcomed very much your information. In giving you
a little more of my family history, I can tell that, after the house was
burned by General Maceo and his soldiers, my ggrandfather rebuilt.
Reportedly, my grand Aunt rememebers many long sessions about the war and
politics, of Maceo and Pablo Suarez, and the comings and goings of the
soldiers. After they burned the family farm in exchange for the soldiers
respect of the small town of Dimas. My ggrandmother was forced to accept
feeding the troops of Maceo and put up with the soldiers ravaging the farm
and destroying and abusing the livestock, she was quoted many times as
saying, "Al menos los espanoles pagan, pero estos vagabundos, ni eso".
In the beginning of 1896 la familia Suarez moved to El Vedado cerca de La
Habana.
After the independence in 1899, they moved back to Dimas and rebuilt again un
lugar que se llamaba Pueblo Nuevo. Pablo Suarez married to ggrandmother had
14 children. Ironically, all this land was confiscated by Castro and the
cuban minions
of the robo lution.
On my fathers fathers side (ggrandfather) German Castro Fernandez, married
Sara Vivero, he fought for the Cuban independence attaining the rank of
Commandante.
Ironic, isn't it? To their deaths my grandparents would debate the cuban
independence which resulted the presented horror now in Cuba. Well, this is
enough for now. Hope this information help someone out there. And as always
more information is greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Maria>^^<
