I think I may have found my Jacque/Santiago Constant today. In the New
Orleans St. Louis Cathdral records.......a death in 1792 of Santiago
Constant...also states he was born in France. One of the problems that we
have in early N.O. is the switching back and forth from Spain to France...It
all depends on if the priest was Spanish or French as to what went in the
records. For instance, my GGGrandfather was christened Domingo Constantino
Constant.....on some papers he is Dominque...to make it more confusing, he
later went by his father's last name of Reynes...and became Constant Reynes,
which is what we see on most of his papers and in a couple of history books
on N.O.....gets confusing!!
thanks so much again!

Santiago comes from the contraction -- shortened form-- of Sant - Iago:
that
means Sant Jacob, because the J was frequently changed to I; thus the
Santiago, altogether, means San Jacobo;
