Looking through the various uses of "informacion" in the Dictionary of the
Real Academia, informacion de sangre is "aquella con que se acredita que en
la ascendencia y familia de un sujeto concurren las calidades de linaje que
se requieren para un determinado fin." In the case that you refer to, does
it not seem likely that it is the equivalent of a "prueba de nobleza"? In
the other situation, where the type of "informacion" is not specified,
there might be other reasons for providing proof of some type. I have read
that when Gabriel Vildosola, who was from the basque country and served in
the presidial forces in Sonora, returned to his homeland, he had to appear
before the council of the town and prove his ancestry in order to be
granted the right to settle there. In his case, it was a matter of his
family's historic connection with the location, not nobility. Just an
example of another possible application of the idea "hacer informacion".
Tomorrow I am going to get up my nerve to call the History Center in
Oriente that you told me about. I hope my mind doesn't go blank!
