Ben, I'm so glad to hear from you. Thanks for the info. My comments
and questions are interspersed in your notes.

The following deed is very interesting and I will see what I can
find out about this land and how John COUCH obtained it. This could
certainly indicate another son but this is the first connection I've
seen between Edward and a John COUCH.
Actually I haven't found a John COUCH in Edgefield. The name
COUCH and CROUCH were sometimes mixed up and I found John, Toliver,
Isaac and Watson COUCH in the 1790 census.
When I checked further I found an abstract of a will of John
CROUCH d. Edgefield 1790 with wife Margaret and 5 children: John,
Eliz, Toliver, Isaac & Birley. I then assumed the John in the census
was a CROUCH.

The 1790 census is key to determining how many children he had.
Please tell me where to find Edward in the 1790 census. I couldn't
find him. There is an Edward COUCH in the 1790 NC census but he is
the Rev. Sol. - not the Edgefield Edward. I believe that is the one
quoted below.

Where did this John die? There was one John COUCH of SC who is
believed to have ma Sarah WATSON but I don't think he was ever in
Edgefield.

I've never heard of Willis. I only found Watson in the 1790
census. There is a younger Watson in Edgefield who I believe was the
son of Jeptha.

Moore Johnson was a legatee in Edward's will.

Moses Holston was a legatee.

Richard BUSH an administrator of Edward's will.

Have seen no proof for Apselia but have her on my list of
"possible children" because of her name and the close relationship
shown in general in the records.

Her name was given as Lovica in the Bible records. I've seen it
as Louvicy, Louvicea and several other spellings but never spelled
with a D.

I would add the wife of Henry SPANN as a possible. Henry SPANN
received a legacy from Edward's estate so is definitely a descendant
or married to one.

Yes, the children named are correct.

I have researched this extensively but not exhaustively. Edward and
Abselia Couch had a very, very close relationship with John COUCH and
with Michael WATSON, son of William WATSON. William died much
earlier. They all lived on adjoining lands and I haven't been able to
determine which of them are Abselia's father but I lean toward William
because
1. Lovica named a son William Watson McDaniel (for her grandfa?) and
2. John WATSON had a known dau Celie (who I think might have been
named Abselia- no one else seems to agree with that, but among the
decendants of Abselia in my family, Celie/Sely became a nickname for
Abselia.) It is possible and even probable that proof will never be
found to identify the correct one.

Thanks for the names. I will probably write them when I return
to my COUCH/McDANIEL research.
