There is an excellent genealogy/mining/ general interest site
at : http://members.lycos.co.uk/troonexiles/index.htm
On the Wheal Grenville page you can find a photo of a Holman
drill in use underground in 1910. Working area illuminated
with
candles.
My interest: the man operating the drill is my grandfather,
Thomas John THOMAS b.Breage 1876. d.Troon 1914.
There is much of interest on this site for those with rellies
who were miners in Cornwall and Troon in particular.

Regards,
Noel Thomas

My father William P. Uren, worked at Holmans for a few
years around 1940s, I was interested to read that they have
closed down. By the response of Com users , it sounds as if
it was a very important place.
Did they play a big part in the war effort ?
Regards Janet
