Hi Diane -

I know you said the writing was "quite clear", but could the name be Lavren? I've seen that name quite a lot in St. Austell parish (also Lavrean), and it could easily have become a middle name for the children - or grandchildren. (And depending on the person filling out the form, letters can look quite a bit alike. "re", for instance, might very well look like a "v"!!)

Just a thought!

Does anyone know the significance of LAVVEN? Is it a Cornish surname?
There were two children born to Collin and Loveday (LEAN) NICHOLAS who
were given Lavven as their middle name on their baptism records. One was
a boy and one was a girl, in 1820 in Gwennap and in 1824 in Redruth. If
it is a surname, perhaps it belongs to the mother of either Collin or
Loveday and was passed on to the children as a tribute. If not, then
what? When I first saw it in the IGI I thought it had to be a mistake in
transcription, but I've seen the Redruth record and the spelling is
quite clear. Thanks... Diane Delbridge, Oklahoma, USA
