Hi all,
You may be interested in looking at this site
http://www.nla.gov.au/ferg/
It contains online images of periodicals in the period around 1845. It
is the Australian Periodical Publications 1840-1845, part of the
Australian cooperative digitization project.
The documents contain fascinating anecdotes, lots of boring political
and administrative information, legal cases, BDM announcements, shipping
announcements, cost of living and salary infomation, advertisements etc
etc.
Although its bias is obviously Australian many of it documents are from
UK (London mostly) and relate to other colonies such as Canada.
At least its something to do while waiting to get through to the 1901
census. And unlike that site its actually free.
Best wishes, Rod
