This is a portion of a letter I received from Agnews in 1992. A great
aunt had died there in 1936. At that time it was a state hospital for
the insane.

I am in receipt of your request for information on the above client.
Agnews Developmental Center retains complete records of a
client/resident for a period of seven years after discharge/death. After
this time the records are destroyed by shredding.

I'm sure this policy would apply to all former state hospitals.
