Hi Everyone
I just thought I'd let you know about a useful site I found while trying to
sort out farms in the Kidwelly/Pembrey area. It's the Carmarthenshire
Antiquarian Society at www.carmants.org.uk <http://www.carmants.org.uk/> .
They have an estate map database with about 900 farms. The database is
mainly of maps in the Carmarthen Record Office, but also a few other
depositories. The entries in the database are just a description of the
maps, and obviously if you can't get to the CRO, you can't see the map
itself, but I found some of the details in the database entries useful.
For example, under Upper Mansaint Farm (modern name Maen-sant-uchaf), in
Llangyndeyrn parish, the neighbours were Lower Mansaint, Cwm Llethllin,
Carnwen, Richard Gwynne, Mr Johnson. Comments were - occupied by William
Treharn under tenant to Mrs Catherine Rees widow. So this sort of detail
might be useful.
There is also a place-name database that you can search. I put in Danylan
and came up with 6 different farms, each giving the OS references, parish
and name variants.
Hope this might be of interest.
Gail
