Hi Jenny
I am so sorry to have taken so long to reply to your kind email, it's been a
few weeks since I've been able to do any family history. I had a look at
the site you sent, which looks lovely, but I'm not sure whether it's my
Tanylan.
I have found a really useful website of the Carmarthenshire Antiquarian
Society, which has indexed a lot of the old maps. So you can do a search on
a place name, farm, etc. For the Pembrey area, they list 6 separate farms,
with their variant names:
Dan-y-lan at Llangain.
Danylan at Llanegwad.
Lan at Llangunor.
Tan y lan isaf (yours I think) at St Ishmael.
Tan y lan at Llangynog.
Tan-y-lan/Danylan at Pembrey. It is possible that is mine. The entry gives
the modern OS coordinates. I have also found Tanylan on the Old-Maps
website. It is SW of Bryndias and north of Coed Rhyal, so just north of
Pembrey village.
However, in 1841, the family was at Cenfu, which is just north of Kidwelly.
They did not move to Pembrey until the 1850s.
So at the moment, both the Tanylan at St Ishmael and the one at Pembrey are
possibilities. I've really only just got this far back with my Morris's, so
I think I might need to do some more work. It's a challenge!
Thanks so much for your interest.
Gail

Hi Gail
The 1851 census shows Tanylan Farm (I've also come across it spelt Danylan)
occupied by the Humphreys family.
The present owners brother, Philip Evans, has written a book on its history
"the Story of a Carmarthenshire Farm". I think the book was published
privately so don't know its availability but Carmarthenshire Archives do
have a copy.
The farm now has a campsite nearby, go to www.tanylanfarmholidays.co.uk
<http://www.tanylanfarmholidays.co.uk/> and you will see a photo of the
farmhouse which also doubles as the camping reception. We stayed there a
couple of years ago as in 1851my ancestors, the George family were living in
the cottages just down the road at Tanylan Isaf. The present owners were
very friendly and really helpful when I told them about my family connection
in the area.
Hope that helps
Jenny

Hi everyone
I have been doing some work today in early-mid 19th c Kidwelly. Does anyone
know if the following are/were farms in the area at that time please?
Danylan, Tanlan (could be the same), Cenfu/Cenfay/Cenfy.
Thanks
Gail
