Uwe, the list of Heimatsortsgemeimschaften is NOT in the FAQ at the
FEEFHS site. Rick Heli - does it exist at genealogy.com? This would
be a wonderful resource to have available in a web page.
I would like to have the address for the Johannisfeld HOG. I plan to
go to Germany in June (on crutches, but I am going!). I plan to attend
the Johannisfelder Treffen in Pforzheim on June 14 but I don't know
where in Pforzheim it will be held.
Thanks for letting us know about the list. The closest English translation
I can think of for Heimatortsgemeinschaft is "Hometown Association." We
Americans (sadly) have no real concept of a "Heimat" (homeland) so it is
possible to translate it but still not transfer the true meaning. We also
have no understanding of being forced out of our homeland due to war or
political and economic changes and therefore little understanding of the
importance of the Heimat and the binding ties of the HOG. One former
Banater has told me that the greatest loss after WWII was not the loss
of the homes and property, but the loss of the culture in the Banat
villages.

Hello everyone,
I thougt it might be helpfull for some of you to have the address of the
so called "Heimatortsgemeinschaft" (HOG) of the village where your
ancestors come from ... At least these Heimatortsgemeinschaften might be
able to help you out with some information on the village, on meetings
of the HOG, etc.
I just got a list with the addresses of 122 Heimatortsgemeinschaften of
villages from Banat.
I must admit that I did not check the Banat FAQ`s if the list can be
found there - if so just trash this mail...
In case the list is not available there you are welcome to contact me
for the address you want to have.
Bye,
Uwe Morres - Heidelberg, Germany
P.S.
Sorry but I don`t know a proper translation for
"Heimatortsgemeinschaft".
