Prior to WWI, the Banat region was bordered on the west by the Theiss River,
on the north by the Marosch River, on the east by the Carpathian mountains
and on the south by the Danube. The primary counties were Torontal and
Timis. Most of what was Torontal county is now in Serbia. The southeast
corner of Arad county was also included, as was a western strip of
Caras-Severin.
