I am searching for evidence of the death of Zachariah Shewell. He was born in Shrewsbury , PA abt 1823. Son of Jesse Shewell and Catharine Beck of Shrewsbury.

Zachariah Shewell married Sophia Smith of Baltimore City. Wedding was in Shrewsbury officiated by Methodist-Episcopal minister David Trout on 2 July 1851. They subsequently lived in Baltimore City during the 1850's and had one living child - Edward Zachariah Shewell born 30 August 1853.

There are records placing Zachariah Shewell in Baltimore starting from the time of his marriage in 1851 and ending with his name appearing in the 1855-56 Baltimore City Directory.

Census of 1860 shows Sophia [nee Smith] Shewell living with her son Edward Zachariah in Baltimore [no evidence of her husband Zachariah]. Sophia [nee Smith] Shewell subsequently married a William J. Gillmeyer of Hagerstown.

I have been unable to locate any record of the death of Zachariah Shewell in Baltimore.

The only record I have been able to locate showing the death of anyone named Zachariah Shewell was in the Roll of Honor as a Private in the Union Army. This Zachariah Shewell enlisted in Illinois in August 1861 and died of a fever at the General Hospital House of Refuge in St. Louis, Missouri on 31 October 1861.

I have no way of knowing if this was my ancestor.
