Subject: Fw: [B-W] half farmer?
Date: Fri, 6 Sep 2002 23:21:20 -0400
Marcelyn,
According to Ernest Thode's German English Genealogical Dictionary, a half
farmer (Halbbauer) is a farmer on a half-sized farm (15 Morgen). A Morgen
is defined as, theoretically, the amount of land that one man and an ox can
plow in one morning.
Hope this helps.

| Hi,
| I think I found half farmer as an occupation. Is this like a
partnership?
| Was it for people too poor to own a whole farm? Who owned the other
half?
| Thank you,
| Marcelyn
