Hi Robert....I have Young ancestors who were the farmers at Holmston in
the early 1800's. I found it on a map. It is located about one mile
east of the community of Ayr...bordering on the river Ayr. It appears
that there may have been stepping stones or some way of crossing the
river at that location. My Youngs also farmed Mainholm Farm which is on
the other side of the Ayr river at that spot. In looking at current
maps of Ayr, I notice there is a street named Holmston in that location,
so I would guess that Ayr has tasken over Holmston as part of the
city.If you can find Craigie Estate on a map, Holmston borders it on the
east, on the opposite side of the river.
