I've been testing the online version of the Dictionary of the Scottish
Language. There is no entry for 'causewayman', perhaps because 'causeway' is
a standard English word, meaning a cobbled or paved part of a street. Scots
forms of 'causeway' are very variable, but closer to cauc, caus: CASSIE,
cassy, cassay, cassey, casey, casy, cassa, calsay, calsy, calse, calsa,
calsaye, calcay, calsey, calsie, calcie, causey, cawsey.
So a causewayer would seem to be another name for a paviour.
