Subject: [AYR] Maryport {Cumbria} connection?

It's a long shot but fingers crossed nevertheless. I have two old photographs
(4" x2.5") each showing a young lady in pensive pose. They might well be
sisters and both look to be in their twenties. From their dresses (which are
voluminous and quite classy!) I'd guess the photos were taken in the late
1800s. The point is that both were taken in Maryport, Cumbria by S Bettoney
of Crosby Street and Sherwood at 74 Wood Street respectively .. (why
different studios I wonder?). As they're among my possessions I assume they
are forebears but most hail from Ayrshire, notably Kilmarnock. My mother was
always sure there was a Cumbrian connection but until these photographs came
to hand there was no evidence of this. Anyway, has anyone out there got a
similar? Ayrshire/Maryport connection?. (Names to conjure with: Humphrey,
Morton,Scott, Dick, Bone.) Roy
