The Qulk day Appeared Alexr Tannahill elder weaver at the kirk and
John Houat if Fennick toun, and did suplecate the session, for liberty
to strike a window through the side three seats, in the west end of
the kirk, which supplication the session having considered, they
unannemusly determine that they shall have liberty to make an window
as aforsd providing that they make it wt teun sheets wt out, so as the
kirk may not be deformed thereby, and that it be done by a skilled
workman, half an eln from the wall head, and rowaland and crawfordland
consent (being the two heritors nearst hand) obtained.
This day also they appoint fiftie shelling scots to be given to the
burser for this half year.
This day it also being represented, to the Elders by the Minr that
there is an inconvenience, in absolving of delinquents before a second
appearance, before the session. Therefore they enact and ordain, that
non shall be absolved till they appear a second time, before the
session, that they may understand how to judge o them, in order to the
same.
This day the session considering the ruine of the schoolhouse at
present, condiscends that a schoolhouse and a chamber for the
schoolmaster be built, and in order here unto appoints David Gemmill
portioner of horsehill John Smith portioner of Rodindyke, and James
Harper, Elders, to buy the timber in Lodoun wood, for the building
thereoff, and that Thomas Gemmill of Raith speak to Alexr Mitchel
annent the holding of it.
This day also was declared to the session that James Barr in Bagerie
milln, was very scandalous for drinking and swearing. The session
resolves that Thomas Gemmill of Raith, David Gemmill and Adam Gilmur
Elder, together wt the Minr shall speak to him, priveatly annent the
same (he being of an ill humour, and difficult to speak wt) and that
all present make search and tryal of the same, and how they can be
proven, against the next session, at that time the fornamed persons
report oh his carraige touards them, is to be brought in, that they
when all things considered, and being compeared together, may know how
to judge in the affair.
This day also it being found, that those who hath built their houses
on the kirk yeard dyk, are obliged to pay fourtie pennies scots for
each fall thereoff, and that notwithstanding that it hath never
hitherto been payed, but finding some of them wishing at this junctur,
to pay the samine. The session determine they be all spoken to, to be
present at the nixt session, that they may be particularly spoken to,
before any further procedure in this matter.
This day also the session understands that John Houie in drumcloych
transgreseth an act of the session, publickly intimate, of which also
he hath gotten privat warning a long time before, and that
