Anyone know why in this era accounts were expressed in several forms of
money, pounds Sterling, pounds Scots, Merks Scots?

Fenwick March 8th 1761 Session met & Constitute - the Modr Reported, that he
with the Committee appointed to receive & clear accompts with John Adam
their curt treasurer, had done So & found them regularly proceeded in - And
that there remains in the Box as a Ballance betwixt charge & discharge three
hundred & twenty eight pounds ten pennies Scots money currant & two pounds
twelve shillings Scots un? Also a Bond by the Towniesk? Company of
Kilmarnock of Seven thousand three hundred merks Scots - a Bill by John Adam
in Skirniland of a hundred & thirty two pounds Scots - a Bill by Robert
Miller of two pounds nine shillings & one penny Ster - Bill by James Weir &
Robt Steel of three pounds & six shillings & eight pence Ster Bill by Robert
Patrick in Kilmarnock of five pounds nineteen shillings Ster Bill by Mathew
Miller & Adam Wallace of two pounds nine shillings & one penny Ster - Bill
by Andrew Fauls & Allan Fauls of one pound Ster - Bill by Dunlops of eight
pounds & six pence Ster - Bill by Mathew Tods of five pound Ster - Bill by
James Hopkin of forty six pounds Scots - bill by Hugh & Agnes Gibsons of
twenty eight pound Scots - bill by Mathew Howat (whose accompts as Bellman
are also ?) of fifteen pound & four Shilling Scots - which money Bond &
Bills forsd were all delivered to John Tannahill their present treasurer
ail? & the Session appointments -
The Modr also told the Session that as a good part of the ready Cash in the
treasurers hand had been lately recovered by James Smith after mealy
imponded to call it in - So the committee had advised John Tannahill to Lend
twenty pound Ster of it to Alexr Mitchell of Darwhillen who wanted a loan of
it on Bill - which now was done the Session approved of their whole conduct
in this matter
The Minr further acquainted them that Mathew Gemmil had been with him once &
again but as he had received no request from the Elders with whom he was
appointed to converse - & as Margt Thomson was lying in child bed he had
ordered him to attend this meeting of Session - he being called in Suitably
exhorted cautioned to confess his aggravated Sin & professed Sorrow for it
Some of the members also reported favourably of the woman on which the
Session agree that they both appear before the Congregation next Lords day
in the forenoon be rebuked and absolved, that he may present the child to
Baptism in the afternoon - This meeting concluded with prayer"
