Gives some idea I think of how poor a person could be in those times. I'm
familiar with this down in England, as my ggggrandfather and namesake was
buried by the parish for 5 shillings in 1833. Earler that week he had
received 3/6 to live on for a month.

"Fenwick August 27th 1839

The united assoceate Session met and was Constituted by the Rev William Orr
Moderator with praise and prayer and was Succeded in the Same Excercies by
James Boyd were present along with them John & Thomas Taylor David & James
Dunlop Alexr Watt John Gemmill Robert Lindsay & Andrew Pecken it appears to
the Session that there is no alteration in Robert Woodburns Case the
Committee was Reapointed. The Committee on John Howies Case Reported the he
felt Disinclined to Remain from publick ordenances and hoped Soon to obtain
Clothing for that purpose. As William Alexander has not attended publick
ordenances for a considerable time past the Session appointed William Young
John Clachan and Andrew Pecken a Committee to Converse on that Subject and
Report to the Session The Session entred on the Consideration of Mrs
Kirklands Case and appointed Thomas Taylor to Converse with her and to
enjoin her to get her Shoes mended and the Session will pay them and She
Shall Receive her weekly aliment in Grocery Goods from Some grocer in the
village in place of money and to inform her that he is athorised to enjoin
upon her to attend the ordenances of the Gospel for if She do not attend the
Session will be under the necessity of cutting of her name from the Roll of
Membership Granted a Certificate to Agnes Husband The Session took into
there Serious Consideration what might be thought the best means through the
Blissing of God for a Revival of Religion in the Congregation agreed that
prayer meettings be Recomended to the Cong to be established in the Diffrent
quarters of the Congregation if found Conveient and as the Session are
hopefull that they have done great good in time past and through the
blissing of God they will encrease and do much good yet. The moderator
likewis preposes to form a weekly prayer meetting in the Session house to
ask God blising for a Revivale of Religion among ourselves and throughout
the world
