Sandra,

The ancestral home of the Boyd family is Kilmarnock. It is
possible you will find them in more than one church. The surname
now is one of the most common in Scotland --- may as well be Smith.
I suspect you will need to find a combination beyond a Boyd and
a Smith at a church to better define if the Smith is your Smith.

I may be telling you something you already know, but on the chance
that it is news.... Are you aware that the Jacobite Wars took place
around 1745? Many Scots had left Scotland, some for America, within
1745-1750, following the loss of the Battle of Culloden. William
Boyd was beheaded, August 1746, after being held in the Tower of London and tried for his
part in the Battle of Culloden. This was when we lost our lands and titles.
