Acoording to my 1945 copy of 'practice and procedure in the church of
Scotland' by Rev James T Cox ...recently acquired from my late mother's
library ......and unread! ....... managers are elected by the congregation
for the purpose of administering its temporal affairs. They must be members
of the congregation in full commmunion. The number should not be less than 6.
It goes on for 3 pages ...... temporal affairs includes care of church
property, and repairs thereof, the letting of seats and collection of seat
rents, payment of minister's stipend, salary of organist or praise leader,
and of church officer......... the managers have no spiritual authority.
