This note includes one of those rare references to events beyond the parish,
namely the freeing of all slaves in the British Dominions this year.

"Fenwick 15 Augt 1834
The united Asso session of Fenwick met in Mr Orrs house and being
constituted by the Revd Willm Orr Modr with praise and prayer and succeeded
in the same excercessess by David Dunlop were present also Willm Gemmell
John Dunlop Thos Taylor Jas Dunlop John Gemmell & Jas Young The committee
appointed to enquire into Jas Young case in Righill reported The session
agreed to remove the suspension and appointed Thos Taylor to admonish him
Compeared Francis Hamilton and expressed his sorrow for sin and his
willingness to submit to the disipline of the church the session ordered him
to appear before the congr on the 1st sabbath of Septr to be rebuked for the
sins he was convicted of Appointed Robt Lindsay & John Gemmell a committee
to converse with him The session took into consideration the character of
the members of their respective quarters in view of eating the Lords Supper
On occasion of the emancipation of the slaves in the British Dominions on
the first of August last the Congr met on that evening and engaged in
Thanksgiving to God for that event Agreed to warn John Steel to attend next
monthly meeting of Session David Dunlop to warn him Granted certificates to
Janet Howat Mary Wright & Margaret Shoss
