I found the family in the 1841 census of Riccarton.

Matthew 45, Jean 35, Matthew 9, Jessie 5, William 3, John 2, Jane (Jean) 2 mths.
Have not be able to find them on the same census for 1851. Would some kind person be able to check other census in the surrounding area for me please. I think perhaps Jean (the mother) may have died prior to 1851.
