An excellent source of information is the PORTEOUS mailing list on
Rootsweb. You can join it and post your questions. There are a number
of very knowledgeable researchers working on this name and there's a
good chance they can help you. Some have the book "The Porteous Story"
which is an excellent source. Or you could start by searching the
archived messages. Go to the Rootsweb home page http://www.rootsweb.com
. Scroll down the page to Mailing Lists, and click on Interactive
Search. Then type in the name of the mailing list, pick a key word such
as Kilmarnock, choose a year and you're off.
