I am not related to Gemmell but I see the name so
frequently on the Ayr list, perhaps someone had a relative
who was a First Mate on the "MCLeod" a sailing ship in the
mid 1870's which was apparently sailing between
Scotland,New Zealand and France carrying Wheat.
I have a story written and printed in NZ around 1935
which involves First Mate Gemmell. I do not know his first
name and the story is probably exaggerated but it's kind of
interesting. If anyone is related to Gemmell please contact
