Well, I was about to unsubscribe after reading this list and occasionally
posting to it to no avail for the past six months, but in the spirit of not
admitting defeat, here goes one more try.

I have a note in my possession written by a family member (identity unknown)
that says:

"Norman McLenithan was born in Scotland- Grandma Dean McLenithan & she was
born in Scotland

"Steve McLenithan and Rita are buried on Mother's lot in Fulton St.
Cemetery, Grand Rapids, Michigan"

They were known to have had six sons, Joel Norman, Charles Artimus, Robert
Charles, Benjamin F., Steven and Samuel Dean (my line).

Contact with a researcher has revealed the identity of "Grandma Dean
McLenithan" to be that of a Mary DEAN, b. November 1813. Her Husband,
Norman, was also born in 1813. My grandmother, who is descended from this
line, has always said that the McLenithans were from "Dean Castle", but
whether this means the area around the castle or the castle itself is
anyone's guess (I would tend toward the former). The person who obtained the
info on Norman and Mary has a family oral history of Presbyterians of Scots
origin in Ulster. Perhaps Mary was from one place and Norman from another
and they met in the US? The name McLenithan I have only encountered with
that particular spelling, but that doesn't mean it wasn't different before
they arrived in America.

Please respond if you have any ideas. If not, I leave you with Samuel Dean
McLenithan's Rules of Life (he was the son of Norman):

1- 8 hours sleep
2- Sleep on your right side
3- A daily bath, as the temperate of your body
4- Exercise daily in open air
5- Eat but little meat, & let it be well done
6- Eat fat to feed the cells which destroy disease germs but avoid
intoxicants which destroy these cells
7- Watch the 3 D's- Drinking Water-Damp-Drains
8- Have change of occupation
9- Take frequent and short holidays
10- Drink a glass of Hot Water every morning (fasting) & last thing at
night.
11- Limit your ambition
12- Keep your temper

I look forward to any response.
