Dear George McCaig
Thank you for the information on the Earl of Carrick. I now have the
names of all but one on board. There was a crew of 13 and one passenger
(Cptn Paton). All perished apart from John Lyon who I believe was the
Mate and one James Watt. The two names I have missing from the list of
those lost are:
Anne CameronStewardess
Cptn AllanbeyMaster
I would certainly love to have as much information as you have on the
film please as I am not just interested in creating family trees, rather
putting as much flesh on the bones as possible, if you pardon the
indelicate phrase.
If anyone would like some further information on this shipwreck I have
quite a bit. The John Lyon that you mention was my gg grandfather. I
have the transcript of the Isle of Man newspaper in which the wreck was
reported and some text of the official enquiry. Incidentally he was
shipwrecked again in 1859 whilst on a Steam ship the "Emerald" in Ramsey
bay again off the Isle on Man. This time there was no loss of life.
I have an old photo of John and his wife too.
Regards
Robin Aird
