Dear Liz,
I have been trying without success for some time to find the birth records
for my gggrandfather Thomas Steel b 28 Jun 1848 to Thomas Steel and Agnes
Campbell. Thomas and Agnes were married 3 Nov 1844 Bothwell, Lanark. This
date of birth came from the family Bible flyleaf of Thomas(son) and his wife
Sarah Rodman Steel who were married 11 Nov 1870. I received a copy of the
marriage certificate of Thomas and Sarah from the Scots Origins. I also
obtained an OPR record of the marriage of Thomas (elder) and Agnes. Both
father and son were coal miners. The IGI does not list the birth of any
children for Thomas and Agnes until 1855 with the birth of Robert Hendry 28
Jan 1855 Kilwinning, Ayr, then John born 3 Aug 1857 Dreghorn. A daughter
Agnes was born 7 Dec 1859 in Cambusnethan, Lanark (James b 1862, Janet Lermet
b 1865 in Dreghorn) so it is obvious that they moved around a lot. Thomas
(elder) was listed as deceased on his sons marriage certificate so he must
have died between 1865 and 1870. Also because the name Campbell is so common
and without any knowledge of children born to Thomas and Agnes between 1844
when they were married and 1855 when the first recorded birth shows up on the
IGI, I cannot seem to establish who the parents of Thomas and Agnes are
without a guess at the naming pattern. Any help you could offer would be so
appreciated. The work that you do for those of us on the list is
unparralleled and unselfish. I can't tell you the all the times you have
sent me in the right direction with your postings and saved me money too by
avoiding costly mistakes <grin>. Thanks Liz.
